Dr Ashish Desai
(FRCS, MCh, DNB)

Mr Desai is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Royal London  Hospital, Portland Hospital and BMI Hospitals at Chelsfield Park and Blackheath. He was also the Honorary Secretary of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons (BAPS). He is currently chair of Upper GI group of BAPS. He is currently Clinical Director looking after Paediatric: General Surgery, Urology, Theatres, Intensive care as well as Neonatal Intensive Care. 

After completing Paediatric Surgery training in India, Mr Desai held Consultant positions at prestigious centres including Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, Glasgow and at Cardiff and Oxford. He then worked as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon for 12 years at King's College Hospital, London and simultaneously established the Paediatric Surgery outreach service at Medway Maritime Hospital, Kent. At King's, he was also the Deputy Clinical Director of the Child Health Directorate and a Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London

Named amongst UK's top 100 children's specialists by The Times magazine in 2012, Mr Desai is one of the UK's senior paediatric surgeons and specialises in using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to achieve scar-free surgeries in children. Mr Desai has extensive experience in treating gastro-oesophageal reflux and constipation. He also specialises in managing appendictis, gall stones and varicocoele with this approach. Aside from his special interests, Mr Desai treats the full range of general surgical conditions such as hernias, undescended testes, tongue tie, phimosis, and circumcision

In 2012, Mr Desai established the surgical weight loss centre for Adolescents. He is part of numerous national committees to address the growing issue of childhood obesity and is working towards establishing adolescent bariatric surgery standards in the country Mr Desai has also published many scientific articles and papers on paediatric bariatrics and general paediatric surgery. He has been invited as speaker at international and national conferences. He also maintains a keen interest in medical education through the teaching and examination of undergraduate and post graduate students as well as educational supervisor for paediatric surgery
