Common Surgical Problems

With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Desai is proficient in treating all common surgical problems in children. He has experience in the management of tongue-ties for babies as well as older children as well as a has special interest in management of constipation in young children.
He also treats other common problems like haemangiomas, lumps in neck or body of the child & abdominal wall hernias, using the most current techniques to ensure minimal discomfort to child.
Ashish also assesses and manages tongue tie at all ages. 

Paediatric Keyhole Surgery (Laparoscopy) and Thoracoscopy

Mr Desai has extensive experience in all areas of Paediatric Laparoscopy, which is a minimally invasive technique utilising a camera for surgery in children. He treats various paediatric conditions such as Appendicectomy, Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), Fundoplication (treatment for GE reflux) laparoscopically. 
Paediatric Thoracoscopy  focuses on the internal examination and biopsy within the pleural cavity and thoracic cavity of newborns and young children. Mr Desai has expertise in using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to manage conditions such as Empyema (damaged air sacs in lungs) and perform Lung Resections (lung removal surgery)

Paediatric Urology

Mr Desai has experience in treating various conditions concerning the urinary system or the male reproductive system including: Circumcision (foreskin removal for health or religious reasons), 
Phimosis (inability to retract foreskin), Bed /Day time wetting  and Hypospadias  (male urethra defect). He also treats undescended testis (Orcheidopexies) using laparoscopic techniques, if needed. 

Paediatric Obesity & Bariatrics

Mr Desai has a keen interest in addressing the global and UK-wide public health issue that is Childhood Obesity.  He has international recognition for this work and has been invited faculty in various national and international meetings. 
In 2011, he has established the first NHS Surgical Weight Loss Centre for Adolescents  at King's College Hospital. His multidisciplinary treatment approach combines dietary and surgical methods for strong clinical outcomes in patients whose weight is posing a health risk which has a strong track record of successful patient outcomes. He has written numerous academic articles and chapters on paediatric obesity and bariatric surgical procedures such as Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.
